Tôn Thất Minh Nhật

Biography

Tôn-Thất Minh-Nhật (born in 1982 in Huế, Vietnam) graduated from Hue University of Fine Arts in 2007. His name has been associated with sơn ta (traditional Vietnamese lacquer), from researching and cultivating traditional techniques, to experimenting with the combination of mixed materials, turning lacquer practice into a personal ritual. Through lacquer, he projects memories and engraves heritage, especially ancient architecture features in Hue, where he lives.

Practice

After 15 years of both practice and research, Tôn-Thất Minh-Nhật is still fascinated by the versatility and flexibility that lacquer brings. He continues his adventure to explore other possibilities of this material, adding his name to the list of Vietnam's most unique contemporary lacquer artists.
